STARS Universe preview — data and rendering notices
Code: AGPL-3.0-or-later. Selected YEIS code ©2026 BigBrains, commit f36367e7e567affcdfa2df56cc329aa643a7d648. Modified loader, original host/lifecycle/camera adapter. No YEIS tours, lessons, narration, translations or logos included.
HYG v4.1 © David Nash / Astronexus, CC BY-SA 4.0. Source https://github.com/astronexus/HYG-Database ; https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ . Derived binary and names remain CC BY-SA 4.0. Rebuilt using modified YEIS build-stars.mjs from original CSV: keep finite distance <100000pc and <=200pc, finite magnitudes, rotate equatorial J2000 to ecliptic J2000 Y-up. 56,289 records including Sun. Distances have catalogue uncertainties: filtering sentinel values is not a precision-quality certification. No proper motion/precession updates in this 3D preview; outside 200pc the catalogue is incomplete by design. Luminosity and colour are approximations.
Planet positions: NASA/JPL approximate J2000 elements and secular rates, https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/planets/approx_pos.html . Educational 2000–2050 preview; UTC used approximately as dynamical time, no light time, nutation, aberration, relativity, or high-precision Horizons validation. Earth element represents Earth-Moon barycentre. Physical radii used; text markers exaggerated for navigation. Planet colours, surfaces and Saturn ring shading are illustrations, not imagery. No external NASA fetch required.
Galaxy: original four-arm illustrative model, approximate 8.2kpc Sun-centre separation; galactic centre RA266.4051 Dec-28.936175 and north RA192.85948 Dec27.12825 J2000. Not a complete observation, photo or measured stellar population. Model displayed only at large camera distances. Current stars sample is heliocentric, not the whole Milky Way.
Three.js MIT; React MIT; Vite MIT; TypeScript Apache-2.0. Full source and notices accompany local distribution. No paid service.

Volume update 2026-11-02: YEIS AGPL shaders (common.glsl, volume_common.glsl, volume_galaxy.frag, volume.vert), same pinned commit. Light emission and dust absorption integrated through a procedural barred four-arm model, approximately 15kpc radius and 8.2kpc Sun-centre separation. Local adapter/model parameters and exposure are illustrative choices; not external photography, not a complete measured stellar population. No additional texture assets or external requests. Desktop64 and mobile32 samples per ray, reduced-resolution cached buffer; not a precision photometric model. Dynamically loaded only when requested/at galaxy scales, retained for continuous return to the solar region; failure falls back to labelled structural point cloud.

Camera integration update 2026-11-02: original YEIS CameraController.ts from f36367e7e567affcdfa2df56cc329aa643a7d648, AGPL-3.0-or-later, is included with only type imports adapted to the host. Orbit/free flight, logarithmic autopilot, surface clearance, quaternion look and distance-based speed come from that implementation. Host DOM input adapter is local. The old 2D percentage zoom and bookmark overlay are removed from space exploration.
Earth imagery: NASA Blue Marble, land/ocean/ice 2048 composite, from https://eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/images/imagerecords/57000/57730/land_ocean_ice_2048.jpg . NASA imagery credit; not real-time imagery. Texture orientation/spin and other planet surfaces remain illustrative, not a precision surface ephemeris. Planet surface update 2026-11-02: YEIS f36367e original terrestrial, gas-giant, star, atmosphere, cloud, ring and lighting GLSL source, AGPL-3.0-or-later. The local host uses the original planet appearance seeds/palettes/craters/bands/storms/cloud/ring-gap parameters, pole orientations, flattening and signed spin periods, with camera-relative sun/occluder positions. HDR / ACES / bloom follow the upstream Engine. Mercury craters, Mars terrain and gas-giant weather are procedural models, not measured topography or real-time imagery; fixed storms are illustrative placements. Earth uses NASA Blue Marble albedo through a local adapter to the same lighting pipeline; synthetic night city lights are disabled. Ring density, gaps and planet/ring shadows follow the original shaders; individual ring particles and moons are not included. Shader source hashes: packages/core/planet-shader-source.json in the corresponding source distribution.

Host adapter details: decorative weather is generated from a bounded local time phase, not observed weather; orbital positions and sidereal rotation still use the selected simulation date. Earth albedo is the only bundled photographic planet surface. GLSL normal/view cosine clamping protects floating-point boundary cases; no-storm masks explicitly disable zero-radius storms.
